Pregnancy
Expecting a baby is an exciting but concerning time for any woman and at the Claddagh Medical Centre we are delighted to provide care and assistance throughout pregnancy. We can confirm pregnancy with urine testing.
All patients are entitled to 8 free visits during pregnancy under the terms of the Mother and Child Scheme as follows:
- First booking visit
- 24 weeks.
- 30 weeks.
- 34 weeks.
- 37 weeks.
- 39 weeks.
- Baby check at 2 weeks after delivery.
- Mother and baby check at 6 weeks after delivery.
The usual surgery consultation fee will apply for any non pregnancy related visits.
Well Woman Screening
Womens health screening is provided within the practice and includes examination, screening blood tests and cervical smear tests where appropriate. Screening is tailored according to age and stage of life. Referral for mammography or bone density scanning to detect osteoporosis can also be arranged.
Breast Check
The National Breast Screening Programme (Breast Check) offer quick, free and easy mammogram’s to women aged 50 to 65.

Cervical Check
Cervical Check (The National Cervical Screening Programme) provides free smear tests to women aged 25 to 60 and can be performed by nurse or doctor of your choice at Claddagh Medical Centre. A smear test is a quick and simple procedure and is the most effective way to detect pre-cancerous changes in the cells of the cervix.
