We are delighted to provide a comprehensive surgical service in the practice. This means that instead of having to wait on a list to attend hospital you can have surgical skin procedures done here in the practice eg. Skin moles, cysts, lipomas, skin cancers, ingrown toenails, skin tags, verrucae ,warts. Non- patients will require a referral letter from their own GP.
Dr Rita Halloran has extensive experience of dermatology and primary care surgery and generally performs these operative procedures on Wednesdays. Alternative times can be arranged if this day is not convenient.
If you have any concerns about skin problems that may need surgery your doctor will be able to assess whether this is suitable for removal in the practice. We use dermoscopy (an instrument with special light and magnification for skin examination) to assess lesions prior to removal which aids diagnosis and ensures that lesions receive the most suitable treatment.
We also have full cryosurgery facilities which involves freezing off appropriate skin lesions eg warts or verrucae.
Unfortunately, the community surgery fees are not covered fully by the medical card scheme. However, we provide service at reduced cost to those with medical cards. For patients without medical cards or health insurance, fees range from €100 – €230 depending on the complexity of procedure involved.
For patients that have an active current private health insurance policy number the cost of the procedure is usually fully covered, however, there is a facility fee of €70 to be paid on the day.
Patients continue to have the option of referral to hospital for these surgical procedures if this is their preference.
